What’s New on TikTok – 2021 Q3

All Users Can Now Make 3-Minute Videos

All TikTok users can now make videos up to three minutes in length! Since its creation, TikTok has been increasing the available length of its videos, but the three-minute videos have really been a game-changer. This allows users to include more info in their videos, so they don't have to do multiple parts of a story, which frustrates a lot of users. It seems like a natural next step for TikTok, and now we just wait and see if they increase the length or stop at three minutes.

TikTok is now the first non-facebook owned app to reach 3 billion installs

TikTok is the first non-Facebook-owned app to reach over 3 billion installs, and its growth shows no signs of slowing down. Once again, TikTok was the most downloaded app in July, as it has been the past several months. With almost a billion dollars in revenue already in 2021 and the continuous updates and improvements they make, TikTok will likely only continue to grow.

New Live-Stream Features

TikTok's new live-stream features include scheduled events you can promote, live Q & As, co-streaming, and more. You can create an event card that allows people to Register for an in-app reminder, so people can be reminded of your upcoming events. Next is the Q & A overlay on-screen, allowing more engagement between viewers and streamers. The last new streaming update is live guests, which displays you and your guest in split-screen mode. This feature has actually been around for a minute, but previously you had to have 5,000 followers to be able to do it. Now, this feature is available for everyone. These new features will be great for engagement and a more seamless experience between viewers and streamers.

'TikTok Stories' in Testing

Every other social media platform has Stories, and TikTok is jumping in and testing a form of Stories for themselves. Similar to the other platforms, TikTok Stories will disappear after 24 hours, and be displayed in a side panel where people can scroll through Stories or through their normal feed. There have been some questions about why TikTok actually needs a Stories functionality and how it will affect the UI, but it's another great way for creators to share content, and hopefully, the UI issues will be handled in testing.

With TikTok continuing to grow, it’s not surprising that they pretty regularly come out with big updates and improvements. What do you think of these, and what do you hope TikTok will add in the future?
